Brianna (Celestial Passions)
Author: Judy Mays
Genre: Ellora' Cave Erotic Romance
DESCRIPTION: Part of the Celestial Passions series.Brianna did what any other decent human being would do-rescue a pair of aliens her boss was about to dissect, and get them back to their space ship. In the process, she was captured by an alien scientist and became a experiment herself-a sexual experiment.Captain Alalakan don al' Chardadon was not about to let Dr. Rodak don al' Bakom conduct his ridiculous sexual experiments on an inhabitant from a newly discovered world. Even if it meant he had to marry the Earth woman to protect her. Marriages were easily dissolved on his planet, and this alien was very beautiful. Besides, he wanted her - in his bed, on the floor, against the wall or anywhere else he could think of.Brianna had to choose-marry the captain or try to find another way to escape Bakom. Easy choice. Even though he was an alien, Char was the most desirable man she'd ever met.So, Brianna found herself hurtling through space married to a very sexy alien - with a very flexible tail - from a planet where hedonism is the norm and there are three sexes - male, female, and hermaphrodite. But Bakom wanted Brianna too, and is willing to do anything to get her back.

Pictures of the Mind: What the New Neuroscience Tells Us About Who We Are (FT Press Science)
Author: Miriam Boleyn-Fitzgerald
Genre: Neuroscience
DESCRIPTION: Over the past decade, a revolution in medical imaging has allowed researchers to scan the brain of subjects in situ, while setting their minds to an assigned task. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) are revealing, among other discoveries, that the brain of some apparently vegetative patients can be active; the brain's ability to heal and grow well beyond what was previously believed; and the various centers of different behaviors and skills. Physicist and science writer Boleyn-Fitzgerald addresses brain injury, addiction, memory, meditation, and more with summaries of recent research, cogent explanations of what scientists are learning, and plentiful references. Fascinatingly, she illustrates how "knotty questions about morality, blame, and punishment provide abundant raw material for brain researchers," who can assess, for instance, "whether 'normal' brains are wired for altruism and cooperation." Boleyn-Fitzgerald writes in a clear voice, making scientific data engaging and accessible for anyone with an interest in the study of neurology, mindfulness, or behavior.

Ripley's RBI 01: Scaly Tale [Ebook]
Author: Ripley's Believe It or Not
Genre: Young Readers 7-8 and Up
DESCRIPTION: Ripley's Bureau of Investigation: A Scaly Tale tells the story of a group of kids on a crazy adventure. The main characters go to Ripley High, a school for kids with special abilities. Some of these abilities are talking to animals, controlling the weather, using mental telepathy, and having herculean strength. The kids with the most powerful capabilities are part of a club with important missions. They travel all around the world to investigate strange sightings. In this book, the first of the series, three kids-Zia, Jack, and Kobe-go to the Everglades following sightings of a lizard-man creature residing there. In Florida, the kids run into some troubles when another group-DUL-starts interfering with the mission. DUL is short for Department of Unbelievable Lies, and their mission is to make the RBI troupe into a laughingstock by preventing them from completing missions. Almost every chapter ended on a cliffhanger and at the end of the book, I was left craving more. The RBI books are short and easy to read, and will probably be best suited for younger readers and those kids who are challenged by longer works.
