Hongkong Vacay Recap: Day 1

After booking our tickets 5 months in advance, our Hongkong vacation is finally here! We all met up at the airport by 5am to catch our 8am flight. After a little drama and stress early in the morning after finding out that one of our companions backed out literally at the last minute, we finally found ourselves aboard the plane, happy and excited for the next couple of stress-free and just-have-fun days ahead of us.

We landed right on time. Immigration was a breeze and our luggage came out pretty quickly. We took the A21(?) bus to the city and arrived at the Imperial Hotel by lunch time. Good thing they allowed us to have an early check in - we dropped off our bags, freshened up a bit and was ready to take off for the day. Since we were all hungry already, we decided to just have lunch at McDonalds which was just right across our hotel. In keeping with trying out something new, we all got something that isn't available in Manila. I ended up getting the Le Grand burger - thick and juicy beef patty served on ciabatta bread with slices of tomatoes, and cheddar and emmental cheese. Yummy!

With our tummies full, we were ready to explore the city. Armed with the Octopus card (a must if you plan to take the subway) and maps, we set out to start our day. Following our itinerary (thanks to Roland!), Sino Center was our first stop for Ochie's fangirl stuff. It took us a couple of minutes to figure out which stop to take...good thing Ochie was pretty familiar with the area and thanks to her excellent map reading skills, we didn't get lost.
Next stop was the Langham Place. As we got off the train, we saw this Mochi place and we just had to try it. I got the Chocolate Mousse one and it was really good!

At the very top of the mall, they had the cutest Hello Kitty Back @ London exhibit and we can't help but be like kids again as we took pictures all around.
After our Hello Kitty fix (which the boys also enjoyed even if they won't admit it...hihihi), Victoria's Peak was next on our list. This was when we had a bit of a problem since we weren't sure how to get to the tram. Ochie knew about taking the ferry but looking at the map, the pier was very far from where we were. As we were walking around, we saw a sign pointing the way towards the Victoria's Peak tram so we decided to just walk. It doesn't seem to be that far, right? And so we walked...and walked...and walked some more. Good thing it was already late in the afternoon and the breeze was pretty cold kasi ang layo nya, ha! Effort! After what seemed like eternity, we finally got to the tram!

The tram ride up to the peak was what we needed to rest our aching feet. And the view from the top was worth all that walking...

By this time, it was already dinner time and we were all so hungry already. Bubba Gump had a fantastic view of the peak and we were able to grab the last table by the window. It was seafood galore and we wiped it all out to the last bit...we were really THAT hungry!

Our last stop for the night is Madame Tussauds' Wax Museum. Have to admit, the wax figures were very life-like! We also went through the horror part (no pictures allowed though!) where we pretty much just screamed the whole way until we got out. Hahaha.

We took a cab (no way walking back again!) and the train back to the city. It was almost close to midnight when we finally called it a night. It was a very tiring yet fun day, and we all had to agree - sulit ang Day 1!

Our next day itinerary - Disneyland! :)
