Summer Vacay 2010 Recap: San Diego

The first stop of our month-long summer vacation is California. Me, my mom and my brother had a head start (we eventually met up with my sis, bro-in-law and Gabby in New Jersey a week later) and arrived on a Thursday where we stayed with our good family friend, Tita Joan and Tito Mike, in Riverside. The only downside is they live about an hour away from LA (literally up in the mountain!) so it's kinda hard to go around the city. I didn't mind it that much though since I've seen what's there to see (Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Universal and the like) several times already so the new scenery was a nice change.

We went to San Diego on our first weekend. This is my 7th visit to California and all this time, I haven't been to Sea World yet so I was pretty excited to see it for the first time. The weather was nice, around the upper 60s, so it was the perfect day to be out.

To make the most out of the day, we started early and arrived in Sea World at around 10 am. First stop was the Skytower ride which takes you several feet high and gives you a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline, and of course, a top view of Sea World.

Afterwards, we checked out all the other exhibits and had a great time seeing all those dolphins...
seals and sea lions...
penguins...
killer whales...polar bears...
flamingos...
and lots and lots of fishies!
But of course, the highlight of the day was seeing Shamu in the Believe show. It was indeed amazing seeing those killer whales perform and do their tricks up close.
Another cool show was Sea Lions Live featuring Clyde and Seamore (forgot though who the sea lion and the otter was). They had a funny skit and their tricks were amazing as well.
It was already past 3pm when we finally completed our tour of Sea World. We passed by one of the outlet malls on the way back to Riverside for some shopping before calling it a day. We were tired from all the walking, but it sure was one fun Sunday...the perfect weekend to kick off our vacay :)
