I'm still in my chick lit phase and since my last read wasn't so successful, I gave Marian Keyes a try this time. It's my first time to read one of her books but unfortunately, it also didn't give me the kilig factor that I was looking for. For starters, I didn't like the first person POV approach. The story was narrated by Claire and she was just so confusing! She said too much and it's quite difficult to figure out if she's just talking to herself or already talking to another person.
Then there's the whole thing with James - her husband who left her for another woman, on the same day when she gave birth to their first baby. That alone will already tell you that she'd be stupid to get back together with him...but she actually considered it! I was so frustrated when I got to the part where James had the nerve to blame Claire on why he ended up having an affair. And more frustrating that Claire actually believed him. Duh!
Lastly, what's up with the title? It doesn't make sense at all. The only reference made to a watermelon in the entire novel was when Claire was describing how she looked like when she was pregnant - like a watermelon. As literal as that. And that was it. Eh?
I don't usually rate the books I've read when I write about them but this is a 1/5. I hope my next read will be better!
