My traffic-free and stress-free morning (for the first time in weeks, I was able to get to work in less than an hour!) was NOT a preview of how my day turned out. It was just too good to be true. I was set to make up with code reviews today since we were 2 defects short yesterday from our daily target of 10. But it turned out that we were 1 reviewer less since my sub-lead was out sick. No worries, as long as there are no major issues or showstoppers, I can focus on finishing up as much reviews as I can.
However by 10am, I found myself needing my fix of Caramel Macchiato so Ochie and I went down to Starbucks to 're-fuel'. By this time, I still haven't started with reviews since I had to first assign out defects, answer emails, make 'away' the QA tester who failed the defect I worked on (which was working as designed to begin with) because of a new issue which wasn't mentioned at all (in fairness, he eventually logged a new defect for the new issue...aba dapat lang!), finalize the mechanics for our halloween contest, and review the time reports which was due today. The next thing I knew, Ochie was done with her conference call and it was 12:30 already.
Lunch time na di pa rin ako nakaka-review!
With our lunch buddies MIA, date ulit kami ni Ochie. Hehehe. There were lots of cabs by the time we got down and since we were craving for Mexican, Megamall it is (though that was just an excuse...we really wanted to check out Powerbooks since the release of Rick Riordan's Lost Heroes was today). Good thing there was no traffic. We got to Megamall in less than 10 mins. Unfortunately, Powerbooks still didn't have it yet and they're expecting to release it not until the 20th! Sigh. So off to Mexicali for our fix of Chicken Enchilada. At least we were happy with lunch. The trip back to the office was quick as well. We were back by 1:40 (o diba, nag lunch out kami sa lagay na yan).
With all my admin tasks done, I really had to start with code reviews. But of course, here comes the issues - defects that can't be recreated, RIB being down in the QA envs, modules that are locked, FAs who are not answering our questions...waaah! After attending to each one and ensuring that everyone has something else to work on, I finally got to my own task. Please, kelangan ko ng mag-review! Just as I was about to recreate the defect, one of our crucial packages suddenly became invalid because of the migration for one of the mods. Di na gumagana ang item costing which pretty much means wala na kaming ibang magagawa. 10 completed defects for today? Asa pa! Haaaaay!
At least we had good and valid reasons for the low defect count so we were able to get away with it - but we badly need to catch up tomorrow! Since I won't be able to complete any reviews anymore, uwi na lang ako. Besides, it's almost 6:30 pm already.
My mom picked me up and suggested to just have dinner at Racks in Magallanes on the way home. Sure thing! After the day I had, I so needed a good dinner. It was traffic as usual along EDSA...what's new? So I took a nap first and told my mom to just wake me up when we reach Magallanes. I eventually woke up after some time and was surprised that an hour has already passed...but what was more surprising was that we were still in Buendia! What the?! Traffic to the highest level! On a regular day, I should be in Sucat already by this time. It took us another 30 minutes to get to Ayala...imagine, 1 1/2 hours from Pioneer to Makati?! We then called my sister to find out where they were already. They were stuck in the skyway. It appears that there was a 10-wheeler truck which broke down just before Bicutan and there were multiple car accidents before Alabang. Kaya naman pala ibang level ang traffic! We took a detour and decided to take the Coastal route instead. Baka pasko pa kami makauwi if we stayed on SLEX.
We finally arrived home past 9pm already (my sis wasn't even home yet!). I'm just so tired and hungry - we weren't able to eat out anymore. What a day indeed. I just hope that tomorrow would be way better than today. I've had enough stress to last the entire week!
*** a slight variation from today's theme...I'm just too stressed to take a picture of myself! ***
