Amazon's trade-in program includes electronics, for gift card credit ]
I wrote most of this on July 11 and forgot to press the 'Publish' button and just noticed that it was still listed in 'draft' form, but the offer it describes is still active, so here's the info, though I think the amount of the offer is not super-exciting. Their general discounts, though, for my own situation, were pretty good when I checked them out, but I am still with my 5-yr old not-so-smartphone.
From now through October, buyers will get $5 to use for each of the three services, whether an Android phone or tablet, but to get the additional, if minor, savings, it must be purchased through Amazon Wireless – not Amazon.com.
When I last looked, to see if I should upgrade my phone, the Amazon Wireless Store would save me at least $50 over Verizon's member-offer to me though I've used Verizon for almost 7 years. But I'm still waiting for the 'perfect' phone after having used mine for so long.
GottaBeMobile's Will Shanklin reports that:
' Amazon’s wireless division can offer some impressive discounts. Some may remember their selling the HTC Thunderbolt for over $50 less than everyone else during the phone’s launch.Shanklin feels [ this is back in mid July, remember ] that Amazon could be "giving us a hint at the kind of approach they’ll be taking with their upcoming Android tablet." Known for their "rock-bottom deals," he says, the coming tablet(s) may combine the "sleek form factor of the Kindle with deals on extra digital content (like this one) on top of competitive pricing" and he feels we'd see "the first non-iPad tablet to make a commercial splash."
Current deals include the 4G Droid Charge for $130, and the Droid Incredible 2 for a penny (both deals with 2-year agreements, of course). By comparison, the Charge sells for $300 at Best Buy, with the Incredible 2 being marketed for $150 at the same place. Add $15 worth of digital content to AmazonWireless’ already attention-grabbing deals, and you just may have found the vendor of your next Android device. '
And he adds, "Either way, if you’ve been eyeing any Android phones or tablets, check out wireless.amazon.com (details about the promo here) for the deal. Just be sure to purchase from AmazonWireless, not directly from Amazon.com ."
