After lunch, Michelle and Abel bought some souvenirs then we made a quick trip to Soho where Normie got her Longchamp bag. It started to rain so we headed to the nearest subway and made our way to the financial district. We wanted to see the 9/11 Memorial but we first had to go thru the museum and get a ticket to go down the fountain. The line was long and since it was still raining, we ditched that plan and headed to a nearby Starbucks instead to wait it out until the rain stopped.
As soon as it stopped raining, we headed to Wall Street...
Then to Battery Park...
And finally made our way back to the city. Since we still had a couple of hours before our 8pm broadway show (it's Wicked this time!), we made a stop at the Rockefeller Center first.
Abel's co-worker suggested that we try out this chocolate place, La Maison du Chocolat, which was just at the ground floor of the Rockefeller. He said that they serve really good hot chocolate and with the cold rainy weather, we were up for it! There was only one cup of hot chocolate left when we got there (apparently they make this by a potful only) so that went to Michelle while Normie, Abel and I got the iced chocolate instead.
And good thing we tried this place...the chocolate drinks were heavenly! It was pure chocolate of the highest quality. You wouldn't want to try any other hot chocolate after this! Oh, and the whipped cream was fresh...not the ones that come from the can.
They also had french macarons (Normie and I just love this) and we just had to try it out. We originally ordered a pistachio and a chocolate flavored one, but since the pistachio was a bit 'damaged', they gave it to us for free and replaced it with a hazelnut one instead. Absolutely yummy! This is what real macarons should taste like. Move over Bizu, Empire and Bar Dolci!
They also gave us free anniversary chocolates!
We vowed to come back the next day to have our own cup of hot chocolate. It was already close to 7pm when we finished our chocolate snack so we went back to the hotel to drop off our things, freshen up a bit then off to the Gershwin Theatre for the night's highlight: Wicked!
And it was absolutely great! Totally worth it! One of the best musicals I've ever seen. I want to watch it again! The story itself was great (I finally knew about the Wicked Witch of Oz) and the singing was just superb. My favorite part was the end of Act 1 where Alphi sang Defying Gravity. It gave me the chills as she hit the high note. A well-deserved standing ovation indeed! As what I told Abel after, 'walang sinabi ang Spiderman!' Hahaha!
We didn't realize that the show was about 3 hours long...it was already past 11pm when we got out. Having not eaten dinner yet, we decided to grab a very late one at Shake Shack.
We got burger, fries and milkshake. I dunno if we were just really hungry or what but the burger was really good! Hot off the grill it is. I liked how juicy and tasty the beef patty was - I didn't even put any ketchup or mayo.
It again started to rain so we made a run back to the hotel. It was a very tiring day and all of us were just ready to crash as soon as we got in. Tomorrow's a more relaxed day and we can afford to sleep in a bit. We will be meeting Normie not until lunch so we can get up late and get some much needed rest...
