We had an early start to maximize the day and see as much of the city as we can. Today's forecast says there's gonna be some thunderstorms throughout the day but that won't stop us from having a grand time. We were out by 8:30 am and our first stop was at the Grand Central Station.
There's a Magnolia Bakery at the dining concourse and we headed there for our sweet breakfast treat. Finally, after my nth time in New York, I was able to try this famous cupcake place.
Sugar overload it is to start our day!
I had high expectations on the red velvet cupcake but it was just so-so.
The cupcake itself was moist but it lacked the red velvety flavor I was looking for. Also, it was topped with buttercream icing instead of the traditional cream cheese frosting. It would have made a big difference if they used cream cheese instead. The one from Cheesecake Factory and the Coral Tree still tops my list. Maybe I should have gotten the vanilla or chocolate cupcake instead.
We also got a pint of Banana Pudding and this I love! I'm not really a fan of bananas but this was just so good - layers of vanilla wafers, fresh bananas and creamy vanilla pudding...yummy!
After breakfast, we made our way out for a morning stroll along 5th Avenue...
A stop at Tiffany's was a must!
Next stop was at FAO Schwarz near Central Park...
They had giant candies and chocolate bars!
And of course, we just had to see the giant floor piano from the classic movie Big. We were just in time for a short performance where the staff played several pieces including some by Mozart.
After going through the toy store, we waited for Normie by the benches out front before heading to Chinatown for lunch.
(to be continued...)
