Last night after dinner, my mom, brother and I headed to the family room to just hangout for a bit before heading to bed. As my brother and I entered the room, a brown butterfly suddenly appeared out of nowhere and was just flying around. We looked at each other and without saying a word, I knew we were thinking of the same thing. We're not really superstitious about these things but where did the butterfly come from? The sliding door leading to the garden has been closed the entire day and there's no way that it came from outside coz there's no open area where it could have flown in. The open garden connecting the front and the back houses has a screen on top so again, nothing can fly in.
The last time we saw a similar butterfly was during my dad's funeral. The only difference was that time, it was a blue one. It landed on the wall across from where we were sitting so we just tried to make light of it. I joked that maybe papa's visiting coz our birthdays are coming up (my brother's birthday is tomorrow, my mom's the day after and mine the day after that). My brother and I even said 'hi papa' and my mom rode along and said 'i love you', and as soon as she said that, the butterfly flew to our side of the room and landed on the curtain just above the couch where we were sitting on (that's where I took the picture above).
We were not scared or anything like that, but it just felt different. Good different. Comforting in a way. The butterfly just stayed on that spot the entire time we were in the family room. A few minutes later, I eventually went to my room but kept my door open. A couple of hours later, when I was about to close the door since I'm about to sleep already, the butterfly suddenly flew into my room and landed on the cabinet door near my bed. I didn't know what to do at first (I didn't want to shoo it out) but I eventually just said, 'pa, don't scare me'. With that I turned off my lights and in fairness, I slept straight throughout the night.
When I woke up this morning, it was still at the same spot where it landed last night. I left my door open when I left for work thinking that it will eventually fly out (and hopefully disappear). I forgot all about it when I got home tonight and it's not until when I opened the lights in the family room when I saw that the butterfly was still there, peacefully perched on the wall.
Well, may it be true or not, but it's somehow comforting to think that he's watching over us and he's with us now during our birthdays. Let's see how long the butterfly will be around...
