death by calories

My mom had this reunion with her college classmates somewhere in Quezon City and while waiting for her, my brother and I went to Trinoma to have lunch and kill time. After a thai lunch at Banana Leaf (I was craving for roti but the one at Penang Hill is better!), we wanted to try a new place for dessert. Since it's only my 2nd time at Trinoma, I wasn't familiar with the restos so I had to consult the mall map and bingo - Five Cows! I've heard and read that this place has very good ice cream creations, and since I'm rarely at Trinoma, it's now or never.

Their dessert menu is pretty extensive and impressive! Everything looked really delicious but we can only choose one so we went for something we haven't tried yet - the Flaming Alaska. It was described as "a french treat with a twist of spiked sponge cake dome filled with a melange of assorted ice cream, chocolate cookies, nuts and smothered with meringue and served with flaming rum". How can you resist that?

A few minutes later, this came to our table:

Then to our surprise, they turned off the lights of the entire resto, poured the rum and torched the entire thing:

It was death by calories on a plate...yummy!

This was indeed a very good choice. I loved that it wasn't so sweet despite the smothering of meringue and the layers of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream.
But this is definitely meant to be shared among 3-4 persons...it was so big! We weren't able to finish it though my brother tried to eat as much as he can. Not sure if there are other branches of this but after trying this ice cream creation and seeing what else they have to offer, I now have a reason to go back to Trinoma :)
